About twenty years in German special-needs schools
I'm a Sonderpädagogin, a special education teacher with two German state teaching exams (Staatsexamen) from North Rhine-Westphalia. For about 20 years I taught at special-needs schools (Förderschulen), always as a homeroom teacher. I wrote educational assessments and used diagnostic tests for dyscalculia and LRS (reading and spelling difficulties).
I also worked as a TV journalist for about ten years, six of them in Washington, D.C., for American production companies, Associated Press Television and the Washington studios of the German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF. I studied English and I'm qualified to teach it up to grade 10 in German schools.

For children who find numbers hard. In Germany this is called Rechenschwäche or Dyskalkulie. One child, or two together (a tandem).

A conversation about school, support and what you can do at home. You fill out a short questionnaire beforehand.

A one-on-one or tandem session lasts 60 minutes: 50 minutes with your child, then 10 minutes for you. At the start I assess where your child stands and write a support plan (Förderplan). This is not a medical diagnosis.
Tuesdays, 3 to 7 p.m., at the Bürgerhaus Bilk
Sessions start at 3, 4, 5 and 6 p.m. English groups last 45 minutes.
Bürgerhaus Bilk, Bachstraße 145, 40217 Düsseldorf. It's a three-minute walk from Düsseldorf-Bilk S-Bahn station. There is an elevator, and the room has step-free access. You can wait right outside the room during the session.
Billed monthly, nothing during school vacations
Prices shown are starting prices. I bill monthly. The minimum is one month, and you can cancel for the following month. You don't pay for school vacations. If I'm sick, your child always gets a make-up session; if your child is sick, a make-up session is sometimes possible.
Home visits and online sessions cost the same (home visits plus mileage). The first assessment always takes place at the Bürgerhaus Bilk.
The first meeting takes 60 minutes at the Bürgerhaus Bilk and is free.
